ROSWELL DAILY RECORDNEWS DEPT.
CROUSE, AGNESA graveside service will be held at Memory Lawn Memorial Park on Monday, February 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. for Agnes Crouse of Roswell. Rev. Hayden Smith of First Baptist Church of Carrizozo will officiate.
Agnes Crouse was born November 12, 1913, and passed away February 7, 2008 at the age of 94.
Agnes, lovingly known as Honey to the family, was born in Roswell and lived in Roswell until moving to Nogal, NM in 1967. She took Civil Service retirement from Walker Air Base when it closed; and, after moving began to work at Fort Stanton Hospital in medical records, retiring form there at the age of 76. In Nogal she and her husband Urban Crouse, now deceased, operated an apple orchard where they kept goats and chickens, tended the apple trees and other fruit trees, and grew a vegetable garden. She canned and froze their fruits and vegetables so there was always homegrown food on the table.
Another hobby Agnes enjoyed was quilting. For several years she met with a small group of friends in Capitan at the Capitan Methodist Church basement a couple of times a week, and they hand-stitched quilts and then donated the money to charity. During her last five months she enjoyed living with her daughter in Roswell and made friends at the Joy Center Adult Day Care. She grew close to the Vista Care Hospice team because they showed such tenderness in her care.
Besides her husband Urban, she was predeceased by her parents, Herman Burkstaller Sr. and Dorothy Causey Burkstaller, and a brother, Harry Burkstaller.
Survivors include her son Jim Crouse and wife Bama, of Nogal; daughter Faye Stokes of Roswell; brother: Herman Burkstaller and his wife Roberta, of Elida, NM; three grandchildren; Becky Frese and her husband Mike of Ruidoso, Carolyn Wallace and her husband Ron of Mohave Valley, AZ and Dena Coelho and her husband Myron of Cave Creek, AZ; three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and her little dog Prissy.
PIn lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Lincoln County, 613 Sudderth Dr., Ruidoso, NM 88345, or Vista Care Hospice, 400 N. Pennsylvania, Suite 500,
