Alton Howse

HOWSE, ALTON -- Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 21, 2007 at South Park Cemetery for Alton Howse, age 76, of Roswell, who passed away peacefully at UMC in Lubbock, TX on September 14, 2007. Rev. Stephen Deutche of First Presbyterian Church of Dexter will officiate.

As per Mr Howse wishes there will be no visitation.

Mr. Howse was born June 24, 1931 along with twin brother Alvin to W.E. and Esther Matkins Howse in Carlsbad, NM. They have preceded him in death as well as two brothers, a son, Gary Wayne his wife Patti McGuire and a grandson Christopher.

Mr. Howse married Barta Nymeyer on December 27, 1954 in Roswell. She survives him at the family home.

Mr. Howse is also survived by daughter: Kathryn Mounts and Russell Berglund of Roswell; a son: Pat Howse and his wife Dana of Dexter; grandchildren: Tiffany and Ryon Huizenga of Portales, Brandon and Amy Howse of San Antonio, Jessica and Brandan Harris of Gardenerville, NV, Tracy and Jason Cunningham of Bagdad, Iraq, and Heather and Dustin Berglund of Meadow, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Howse graduated from Wink High School in Wink, TX in 1949. He attended Sul Ross University for one year. Mr. Howse was in the Us Army Military Police
ision from 1950 to 1952. Upon discharge he went to work for Southwest Potash Company in Carlsbad, NM. He returned to college in 1961 and received a BS and a MA in Mathematics from ENMU-Portales. He taught in the Floyd and Portales Public Schools before moving to Roswell and teaching in the High School Equivalency Program on the ENMU-Roswell Campus. He retired in 1986.

Mr. Howse was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dexter. He also assisted with the Valley Ministerial Alliance food Pantry for many years.
