COX, ALVA L. -- Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 24, 2006 at South Park Cemetery for Alva L. Cox, age 96, of Roswell, who passed away August 21, 2006 at his residence. Pastor Richard Smith of Highland Baptist Church will officiate.
Alva was born October 25, 1909 in Pirtle, Oklahoma to Thomas and Serbina Cox. He married Ruth Hampton on October 24, 1931 in Durant, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his two sons: John Lewis Cox and his wife Linda Jo of Celina, TX and Ronny Andrew Cox of Roswell; one daughter: Margaret Nell Cox Glenny and her husband Latson L. Buster of Roswell; one brother: Albert Newton Cox of Roswell; three grandchildren: Wanda Nell Foster and her husband Tim of Roswell, Colleen Grace Cox of Roswell, James Lee Glenny and his wife Jeneva of Roswell, Jeff Cox and his wife Shannon of Sturgis, Michigan; four great grandchildren: Jason T. Foster, and Sheena Nell Cox of Roswell, Erica and Laura Cox; and a special life time friend Alfred C. Jim Jones; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a loyal companion Josie.
Alva is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruth H. Cox, three brothers, Marvin, Roy and Arvin Cox and three sisters, Elizabeth, Lydia and Della.
Alva was a farmer in Oklahoma until 1945. They then moved to the Roswell area where they farmed in the Pecos Valley until age 88. Alva was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
