Memorial Rosary and Mass are scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church for Aminta Aguilar, age 77 of Roswell. Interment will follow at St. Peters Columbarium
Reception will follow at the Ava Maria Center, 401 E. Bland, New Mexico.
Aminta Alvarez Aguilar passed away December 1st, 2012. She was born on November 25, 1935 in Juarez, Mexico to Esther Alvarez Portillo and Juan Alvarez Vidal. As a young girl she moved to El Paso Texas and attended El Paso High. Aminta has been a resident of Roswell, N.M. for fifty years. She worked for Chavez County Extension Office, Roswell Independent School District, and she held various positions for the State of New Mexico. The most rewarding was her work with New Mexico Rehabilitation Center. She got the opportunity to work adult with disabilities. She taught them to read and prepared them for the GED. In 1982 she received the Eliane Mc Cray Award as Instructor of The Year. She was very active in the community and contributed her time to several organizations. Her passion was to help others, especially children and adults with disabilities. Her efforts were recognized by Governor King who asked her to sit on a special committee to pass a public law that would recognize and protect the rights of disabled and elderly. Aminta taught English as a second language and was fondly named Mi Maestra. She never turned anyone way who needed help. If she couldnt help them she would find someone who could. Aminta was loved and greatly respected She will be missed by all who knew her.
Aminta was preceded in death by her father Juan Alvarez, mother Esther Portillo, her brother Juan Alvarez Portillo, and her stepson Manuel L Aguilar.
She is survived by her sons Edward Aguilar and Sergio Aguilar, her stepson Robert Aguilar and his family, daughter Maria P. Martin, son inlaw James M. Martin, a granddaughter Verna Sosa, her fiance Jason Lathrop, three great granddaughters Selena Bejarano, Sophia Bejarano and Zoie Lathrop, a grandson Michael E. Martin, his wife Julie A. Martin, a grandson Chance Nunez, his wife Rita Nunez and their family. Her sister inlaw Anna S. Alvarez Moreno and her family, a brother Alex Alvarez, his wife Maria E. Alvarez Carrillo and their family, a brother Richard Alvarez, his wife Susana Alvarez Villanueva and their family, a sister Aurora Alvarez Portillo and her family, a sister Maria Teresa Alvarez Portillo and her family, a sister Marta Alvarez Portillo and her family. An Aunt Enedina Herrera, her family and numerous cousins. We would like to recognize her dear friends of which many she considered family.
In lieu for flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Peters Church or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
