JOHNSON, ART--A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 1, 2009 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Art Johnson, age 79, of Roswell who passed away on July 24, 2009 at his residence, after a long illness. Rev. Richard Smith will officiate. BRBRArt was born May 18, 1930 to Arthur and Lillian Johnson in Everett, Washington. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob, and his mother and father.
Art married Jane Mason on August 12, 1957 in Los Angeles, California. She survives him at the home. He is also survived by: two sons, Kurt Arthur Johnson and his wife Julie of Boulder Creek, California and Karl Alan Johnson and his wife Tiffani of Durham, North Carolina; one daughter, Evelyn Dorothy Cunningham and her husband Danny of Milpitas, California; one grandson: Nicholas JohnsonBRBRArt was an avid lifelong Ham radio enthusiast. As a ham radio operator, Art never passed up on an opportunity to be of service. He traveled to disaster areas to act as a communications facilitator. He belonged to the Pecos Valley Amateur Radio Club and was very active until his illness. He retired from IBM where he was employed as a Field Engineer at the genesis of the computer age. He also was a motorcyclist for 50 years and took many extended 2 wheel adventures, in the US and Mexico. He also enjoyed camping and hunting and was a member of the Roswell Gun Club. He was a veteran with the United States Airforce. He was fond of telling stories about his underaged career with the Merchant Marine after WW2.
