Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Monday April 28, 2008 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Arthur B. Cummings, age 99, who passed away April 22, 2008 at a local nursing center. Services will be conducted by the Roswell Masonic low 12 Club. Interment with Military Honors will be Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he will be laid to rest.
Buck was born on October 22, 1908 in Bates County, Butler, Missouri to Andy and Fern Cummings. They both have preceded him in death.
On April 15, 1935, he married Mina Crust, of Butler, Missouri, at Plainview, Texas. Their sixty-three years of married life was spent in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. Mina passed away in 1998.
While working for Amerada Petroleum Company in Hobbs, New Mexico, in the spring of 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at San Angelo, Texas. He served three years and thirty days as a Navy Seabee with time spent in the Aleutian Islands and the Philippines.
After discharge from the U.S. Navy, he continued his career with Amerada Petroleum until his retirement on February 1, 1970.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.
He was Past Master of Blue Lodge AF and Am 63 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
He is survived by a sister, Jane Curlee, and husband Clyde of Levelland, Texas: nephew Gary Matson and wife Jan, great-nephews Michael Matson and his wife Angie and their two children, also Mark Matson and his wife Amber and their two children all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
