Basilio Castaneda

Basilio Castaneda Chilo died on August 2, 2013, accompanied by his wife and family. He was born on April 15, 1940 to Benino and Maria Castaneda in Carlsbad, NM. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by three siblings, Rito, Maria Juanita and Maria Jesus. His wife Nancy preceded him in 2006.

He is survived by his wife Rosa Castaneda and four sons, Basilio Castaneda and Cindy of Capitan children Jessica, Josh, and Alexander, Ben and Suzan Castaneda from La Plata NM children Benino, Diego, Elisea, Eric, Joseph, William, and Arabela, Rito and Terri Castaneda of Roswell children Crystal and Savannah, Alfonso Castaneda and Trish children Patrick and Brandy of Perryville AR. He is also survived by his step children Sulema Ponce children Jasmine and Josiah, Reynaldo Ponce children Amelia, Elias, Nehemiah, Mayra Galindo children Jessica and Vallerie, and Jaime Reta, siblings Socorro Castaneda, Seferina Lavario, Frank Castaneda, Gregoria Herrera and Joe De La Rosa. He also had many nieces and nephews and great grandchildren who loved him.

Chilo was a welder, he worked for Armstrong Construction for many years. When he retired, he continued to weld completing many projects for family and friends. He enjoyed making discos and personalizing them for each person. He loved teaching the art of welding to others.

A memorial service will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. He will be cremated and interred at a later date
