Bette Rowland

ROWLAND, NELLIE ELIZABETH (BETTE)- Nellie Elizabeth (Bette) Rowland, 95, of Roswell, New Mexico, died peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2018 at her home.

She was born to LW and Nellie Augustus Ballard on January 16, 1923 on the family farm in Newburg, Missouri. Because of her father's job with the railroads and highway department, she spent much of her childhood traveling around the country. She often commented that she never spent more than six months in any one place; never having a place to call home. After college, she married and moved to Roswell. She knew immediately that this was her home and where she wanted to spend her life.

In her younger years, Bette was active in the Garden Club, Hospital Auxiliary, PTA, Cub Scouts and of course raising four children.

Bette is preceded in death by her parents, LW and Nellie, her son Tim Rowland, and her beloved Sisters in Law, Glenda Rowland and Bing Rowland.

Bette is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Rowland of Headley, Texas, Arlene Rowland of Roswell, Anna (John) Buffington of Farmington, NM and Daniel Rowland (Diane) of Gainesville, Florida. In addition to her children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Kerri (Ryan) Pirtle, Tamara Rowland, Lisle Rowland, Treva (Kyle) McKinney, Brian (Durinda) Buffington, Aaron Buffington, Eric (Casie) Buffington and Eve Rowland. The special little lights of her life were her great grandchildren, Molly, Mazie, Josie and Emmett Pirtle, Ava, Camden and Harlow McKinney, and Steven and Evelyn Miles. She is also survived by her brother in law Jim Rowland (Donna), niece Tawnya Rowland, and nephew Dave (Annie) Rowland.
She is also survived by her dear friends Betty Gallegos, Eva Herrera (and Sammy), Mary Flores and Lucy Payne. The family wishes to thank the staff of Peachtree Retirement Center and Kindred Hospice for their special care and kindness.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
