MILSTEAD, BILL R.----A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Christ's Church and graveside services at South Park on Monday, August 3, 2009 for Bill Milstead of Roswell who passed away July 28, 2009. He was 92. Pastors Lonnie Owens and Jerry Chavez of Christ's Church will officiate.BRBRBill was born October 19, 1916 in Farber, Missouri to William and Nellie Mae Milstead, both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up and attended school in Ashland, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Glenn, Earl and Jack as well as sisters Marg and Verle.BRBRBill, a resident of Roswell since 1942, married Mary Francis Wagner on April 2, 1943 in Roswell. She survives him at the family home. He is also survived by his sons Jim and his wife Linda of Reno, NV, John and his wife Ellen of Nassau Bay, TX, and Bill and his wife Cindy of Richmond, TX., six grandchildren, Lisa Foreman and husband Danny of Jacksonville, TX, Greg Milstead and wife Allison of Ozark, MO, Brian Milstead and wife Donna of Lubbock, TX, Michael Milstead and wife Denise of Owatonna, MN, Missy Milstead of Arlington, VA, and Sarah Milstead of Houston, TX; and eight great grandchildren, Samantha, Amanda, Jazin, Jade, Alyssa, Megan, Brianna, and Holton.BRBRBill served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps and was stationed at Roswell Army Air Field at the wars end. He and Frances remained in Roswell and he became a farmer in the East Grand Plains community. He farmed for over twenty-five years after which he became a part of the staff at NMMI and was the officer in charge of postal services and some cadet services.BRBRBill was active in the East Grand Plains Lion's Club, serving as its President for two terms and also served as President of the Chavez County Farm Bureau for one term. He was a member of Christ's Church as well as the Roswell Masonic Lodge 18 AF and AM and Felix Lodge 29. He was a 32nd degree Mason.BRBRBill was a high school and college basketball referee for 26 years, teaching countless others how to officiate the sport as well. He was an avid fisherman, a voracious reader, and an innovative story teller who could captivate children with his own unique twists on popular stories.
Bill loved the Lord and spent countless hours, particularly in the past several years, pouring through his Bible. He was a member of Christs Church. He loved Sunday mornings when he could join his fellow Christians in worshipping Jesus and our Creator.
BRBill was a devoted family man who loved and was loved by his family. He touched so many people throughout his life. He was always quick with a joke, a wink, a smile, a hug or a pat.
