RHODES, BRUCE C. -- A Masonic Graveside Service is scheduled for 11:30 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2009 at South Park Cemetery with Memorial services immediately following at the Masonic Temple for Bruce C. Rhodes, age 78 of Roswell, who passed away January 21, 2009 at a local hospital.

Bruce was born April 5, 1930 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Bertis and Lalla Rainer Rhodes. His parents preceded him in death, as did a sister, Darlene Meredith. He moved to Roswell when he was 4 years old and graduated from Roswell High in 1948. He received his Bachelor degree in 1960, and his Masters in 1970, from ENMU-Portales.

He served his country in the U. S. Army from 1951 until 1953.

He married Sharon Littell Muirhead on May 11, 1985 in Roswell. This occurred on her parents, Paul and Carol Littell, 50th wedding anniversary. She survives him at the family home.

Other survivors include his brother; Kenneth Rhodes and his wife Caroline of Lubbock, TX, children, 2 sons; Chris Rhodes and wife Sheila of Lubbock, and Tom Muirhead and wife Carol of Carlisle, PA, 6 daughters; Adena DiTonno and husband Tony of Redwood City, CA, Debra Harris, and husband Brent of Tyler, TX, Lisa Ziegler and husband Greg, of Odessa, MO, Carol Sapalio, State College, PA, Cathy Fields, and husband Sam of Rowlett, TX, Connie Brown and husband Scott, Greeley, CO, and a special daughter, Cindy Farris, and husband Jim of Cold Spring, TX.

He also is survived by 15 grandchildren; Brad Ziegler and wife Kristi, Melissa Ziegler Brazile and husband Darin, Matthew Rhodes Harris, Merideth Harris, Laura Rhodes, Shaun Banister, Chelsey Fields, Tory Fields, Darby Fields, Callee McCann, Lacee McCann, Casey Brown, Ethan Brown, Eric Muirhead and his wife Rebecca and Suzanne Muirhead. He is survived by three great-grandchildren, Lane Muirhead, Kaylin Ziegler and Brody McCann, and the granddog, Yoda.

Mr. Rhodes taught school in Texas and New Mexico for 32 years. He was an English teacher at mid-schools and high school. He coached track, and announced football games for Roswell and Goddard for many years.

He loved reading, singing, traveling, hunting, and most of all, loved being with his family and friends, and loved being a Grandpa.

He was a member of Roswell Masonic Lodge 18, the York Rite, and Scottish Rite. He was Past Master of Roswell Masonic Lodge 18 in 2000. He was past president of the REANEA, and was inducted into the Southeast Hall of Fame in 1995, and the State Hall of Fame in 2003. He was a member of Senior Circle where he was active in the Singing Seniors. He was a proud member of NRA and the VFW
