Carlos Cunningham

CUNNINGHAM, CARLOS MAX Carlos Max Cunningham went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Services will be at the New Mexico Military Institute Chapel at 11:00, Tuesday October 11, 2011 with interment following at South Park Cemetery.
Carlos was born January 14, 1939 in Lubbock Texas to Jesse and Vera Cunningham. Carlos married Carol Zeigler on June 16, 1962 in Artesia, New Mexico. She survives him at the family home.
He moved to Roswell from Abernathy, Texas in 1954 and graduated from Roswell High School. He attended McMurry and NMMI on football scholarships and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelors degree in accounting in 1961. Soon after, he earned his CPA. He went to work for Allman and Evertson Accounting and eventually became a partner in Evertson and Associates. Carlos later went into private practice where he remained until 2005 at which time he became associated with the firm of Andrews, Smith, Lowery and Company.
Carlos served on several boards and committees and was a member of a number of organizations in the community through the years. He was a Past Master of Roswell Masonic Lodge 18. He was a Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Mason, s Past Grand Commander of York Rite Bodies and a member of The Order of Eastern Star.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and delighted in the teaching of Gods word, which he did for many years. He loved his family unconditionally and was a loving and compassionate friend.
His father Jesse Cunningham, mother Vera Cunningham, brother Harold Cunningham and fatherinlaw Earl Zeigler preceded Carlos in death.
He is survived by his daughter Carlyn Hancock and her husband Floyd Hancock Jr. of Portales NM and two grandchildren: Garret Hancock and Taylor Hancock also of Portales. His motherinlaw Gladys Zeigler of Roswell, NM, Sisterinlaw Eula Cunningham of Jasper TX, two nephews Jerry and Phyllis Summers of Burksville, TX, Tom and Joyce Summers of McKinney, TX, and three nieces Kathleen and Donnie Simpson of Clarksville, TN, Ann and Gary Biggs of Roswell, NM and Susan King of Clarksville, TN.
Pallbearers will be Mark Daniels, Tommy LaGrone, Howard Jones, Mike Citty, Bobby Baldock, Dave Parsons, Derry Moore and Chuck Coll. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Scott, Charles Butler, David Baker, Tom Payne, Bill Verhines , Bob Maples and the New Beginners Sunday School Class.
Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Friends may pay respects in person or online at www.lagronefuneralchapels.com.
