Passionate, determined, dedicated, and loving are only a few words that could describe Carolyn Shirley. From a young age, she was passionate about God and doing His work. She often told of teaching Sunday School at the age of 12. Many people have been touched and inspired by her relentless desire to see souls saved and lives transformed. Her husband truly found a treasure that was "far above rubies" as they served together in ministry for 45 years. Since its beginning in 1997, Lighthouse Academy was the place she loved to be. "Mrs. Shirley", had a special way of teaching, mentoring, and correcting the children. They loved her dearly. Her door and her heart were always open to friends and family. To those of us who called her "Mom" and "Grandma", we will always remember her love of cooking, sewing, and gardening. There was always coffee or tea and a meal if you had time to come by and sit a spell because her love of life was so large. Her passing will leave a very large and empty place in our hearts. This pain can only be lessened knowing that she is passionately and lovingly worshipping her Saviour as she dances on streets of gold.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father Paul and Pauline Chrisley, brothers James Chrisley and Dale Chrisley.
She is survived by her husband Eugene Shirley of the family home, daughter Paula Almond and her son-in-law Alvin Almond, Sr. all of Roswell; sister Bertha Tougher of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and 3 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Almond, Jr., David Almond, Tony Martinez. James Nelson Wright, Manuel Gonzalez, and Joshua Burrell.
Flowers will be received or you may make a donation in the name of Carolyn Shirley to the Hope Center UPC, in care of the Hope Center UPC to PO Box 642 Roswell, NM 88202.
