Charles Hedgecock, Jr.

February 1, 1933 — April 17, 2017

Charles Avery Hedgecock Jr. "Jack" went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2017. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday April 20, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Friday, April 21, 2017 at the General Douglas McBride Veterans Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico. Pastor Bill Hedgecock of Carlsbad, NM will be officiating.
Jack was born on February 2, 1933 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Charles and Pearl Hedgecock. As a young man Jack had his priorities in line, he would skip school to go fishing and swimming in the Berrendo River. When his mother found out she enrolled him in a local catholic school where he received his education. Even though Jack had a great love for swimming and fishing, he had a greater love for music. Throughout his entire life Jack was raised around instruments and singing. From the age of five he had a mandolin in his hands. Jack sang, played mandolin, guitar, and taught many others how to play as well. His love for music led him to making his own records and he continued to play until the Sunday before he passed.
Jack joined the Army in 1954 and served two years in Alaska. Even in the army, Jack still played music and was always making friends.
In 1960, Jack met his life-long love and singing partner Mary Slover. Soon they were married and Jack took a job in maintenance for the RISD schools. After several years Jack and Mary moved to Jal, New Mexico where he continued to work in the schools. Raising two small boys, the couple moved back to Roswell and Jack took a job with Transwestern Pipline Company. Jack enjoyed coaching his two sons, Jackie and Tim, in almost all sports. He loved watching them play from little league all the way to the college level.
Jack loved all his grandkids more than anything. He never missed one of their games and proudly wore his Goddard and NMMI hats everywhere he went. He was always giving them advice and every picture he got of his grandkids went in a frame on the wall.
In the late 70's Jack received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and his life changed. He began to give his musical talents to God. Jack and Mary continued to sing and play music, as well as teaching and inspiring their children along with anyone else who wanted to learn how to play or sing music. Each Sunday you would find Jack and Mary singing and playing at the Sunset Villa Nursing Home, where they loved the people and sharing gospel music with their friends.
Jack played his guitar for the last time on Saturday April 15th for his two great granddaughters. While he and Mary sang and played, the girls danced around the room. They had a great time.

Jack is now singing in heaven but will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He is preceded in Death by his parents, Charles and Pearl Hedgecock, his son Tim Hedgecock, brothers Glenn, Dale, and Kenneth Hedgecock, and his sisters Betty Graham and Pauline Rabb.
He is survived by his wife Mary of the family home, son Jackie Hedgecock of Sanger, Texas, daughter Tricia Hubbard and spouse David of Roswell, and brother-in-law and close friend, Mike Chipps of Roswell. Jack has ten grandchildren, Savannah Marx, Joshua Hedgecock, Zachary Hedgecock, Cerissa Newton, Avery Aaron Hedgecock, Devin Hubbard, Roy Hedgecock, Danielle Hubbard, Jessie Hedgecock, and Andrew Hubbard, along with nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Out of all his loves, his greatest was God. So we leave you with his favorite bible verse John 3:16. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life."
Pallbearers will be Joshua Hedgecock, Zachary Hedgecock, Avery Aaron Hedgecock, Devin Hubbard, Ray Hedgecock, and Andrew Hubbard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Floyd Chipps, Tommy Graves, Don Smith, Donnie Kendall, and Bobby Graves.
