MARTIN, JR., CHARLES M. -- Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2008, at First Christian Church for Charles M. Martin, Jr., age 90 of Roswell, who passed away January 1, 2009 at his home. Pastor Tim Arlett of the First Christian Church of Roswell and Pastor Robert Hall of Calvary Fellowship of Rio Rancho, NM will officiate. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery with the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard providing the honors.
Charles was born December 11, 1918 in San Antonio, Texas to Charles M. and Willie Mae Henry Martin, Sr. He was brought to Roswell as a child and attended school here graduating from Roswell High School, then attended the University of New Mexico and graduated from New Mexico Western University and Texas A M. Both parents preceded him in death.
He married Biancia Bi Greenwade on September 12, 1945 in Roswell. She survives him at the family home.
Mr. Martin served his country in the U. S. Army, during WWII. He was a member of the Army Signal Corps serving three years overseas in the Southwest Pacific Theatre, one year of which was in MacArthurs headquarters in Australia and New Guinea.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, since 1948, but was raised a Baptist. He was also a member of the Roswell Masonic Lodge 18, and a longtime member of Roswell Rotary Club, with long service on the Student Loan and Student Guest Committees, and he was a Demolay Dad.
He was a cotton buyer and co-owner for Martin Greenwade Cotton Co. He was co-owner of M M Coin and Hobby Co. since 1976.
Survivors include one son, Charles M. Martin III and his wife Charmaine of Roswell, NM, one brother, William K. Martin of Ventura, CA, and a sister, Fran Mitten, of South Yarmouth, MA., and a sister-in-law, Pat Greenwade. Also surviving is a grandson, Charles M. Martin IV, of New Orleans, LA., many special nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
