Clayton McDaniel, 87, passed away Monday,November 2, 2020, in Roswell, NM with family by his side.
Clayton was born March 24, 1933, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Everette and Mildred McDaniel. Clayton was always ornery, wild, and had a stubborn streak a mile long, but he also had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He loved to hunt, work bees, ride horses, and drive a bit too fast. He was also an avid sports fan, attending his children and grandchildrens’ events and any other sporting event he could; he never missed a Texas Rangers game. Clayton served in the U.S. Army in the 516th Field Battery (SLT) in Germany. He worked for Mountain Bell/AT&T/US West for 36 years. He climbed telephone poles at lightning speed, even in his seventies. Never one to truly retire, he also drove the school bus for a number of years.
He married Marcine Zita Schmid on October 21, 1955, and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. They raised their five girls, who all love life as much as he did. They instilled in their family strong Christian values, which have been passed on to their grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marcine McDaniel, and four daughters and their spouses, Amy and Mike Joy; Lyn and Monti Vandiver; Jana and Shane Perkins; and Kristy and Gary White. In addition, he was survived by his grandchildren, Cydni Vandiver, Cami Jo and Blaize Hartig, Ray and Brogan White, K’Leigh and Mason Holcomb, Jace Perkins, Slade Perkins, and Aidan Perkins. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Denton and Diane McDaniel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Mims, parents, Everette and Mildred McDaniel, brother, Johnny McDaniel, and sisters, Virginia Tillman and Velma Randolph.
