Cleo Sanders

Cleo Celeste Campbell Sanders was a blessing to this world, family, and friends for 92 years. She was given to Dillard and Sarah Ann Hill Campbell, on October 19, 1919 in Carlsbad, NM, and grew up on Rocky Arroyo. She married Garnett L Sanders on August 6, 1940 and they were married 59 years, before he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one grandson Lorin E. Sanders, Jr., and two sisters Wilma Truitt, and Francis Hamilton Campbell.

Cleo and Garnett were blessed with three children: Lorin E. Sanders and wife Fredda of Roswell, Ernest Shorty Sanders and wife Jackie of Oklahoma, and daughter Jan Neff and husband Eugene of Roswell. She has six grandchildren: Leon Sanders, Mauri Miles, Janna Sisk, Jessica Neff, Tristan Neff and Trevor Sanders. She has nine greatgrandchildren and three greatgreat grandchildren. Cleo is also survived by a sister Elizabeth Hutchinson and one brother Jack Campbell and wife Mary, all of Carlsbad, NM, and many nieces and nephews.

Cleo began sewing for the public at the age of 16, and continued up until she was unable to see well at the age of 87. In 1998, she was honored by the Roswell Independent School District for creating and making all 90 band uniform vests for the Goddard High School Marching Band. Cleo will always be remembered for her generous spirit and never turning away anyone in need. When unexpected guest showed up at meal time she would say, Come on in, we will add another potato to the pot. She treated everyone as a family member.

Pallbearers will be Joshua McKelvey, Jeremie McKelvey, Rounder Moore, Trace Hellums, Derrick Bates and Kevin Durbin. Honorary Pallbearers are Hugo Killgo, Leon Sanders, Tristan Neff, Tommie Chambers, Trevor Sanders and Eugene Neff.
