SAVAGE, CLEO--Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Country Club Church of Christ for Cleo Ledbetter Savage of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Roswell, New Mexico.
Cleo Savage was born on July 19, 1914 in Oklahoma to Addie Ledbetter and was the youngest of six children to that family. They moved to Mangum, Oklahoma, where Cleo attended school, graduating from Mangum High School in 1931. She married Edgar N. Jack Savage on December 22, 1935 in Wellington, Texas. She and Jack moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1936, where Jack and his brothers established Savage Brothers Electric. An accomplished seamstress, Cleo owned and operated Cleos fabrics until 1971.
Cleo was a 50 year member of Roswell Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star and of the Roswell Assembly No. 116 Social Order of Beauceant where she was active as an officer for many years. In 2001, Cleo received recognition as a 50 member of the New Mexico Garden Clubs. Cleos volunteer services included president of Missouri Avenue PTA; volunteer for the Chaves County Election Board; Brownie leader; Cub Scout leader; and many hours as a cheerleader mom. She was also Mother Advisor of the Roswell Rainbow Assembly.
Cleo belonged to the Church of Christ in Roswell for 70 years with her original membership placed at South Main Church and later transferred to the Country Club Church. She was active in her Sunday School Class, Ladies Bible Class and enjoyed serving dessert for the community Thanksgiving dinner. She loved the birthday girls; the church 42 group, and winning nickels with the quarters 42 club.
After moving to Oklahoma City in 2006, Cleo made her home at The Wellington. She continued an active life, serving as co-chair of the Resident Council, playing bingo and dominoes, and nightly games of Rumicube with her special friend, Ruby. Great Gran was the biggest cheerleader for Brandon and Prestons games. Cleo was the 2006 Oklahoma State Fair Senior Royalty and 2006 1st runner-up for Miss Wellington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. N. Jack Savage, her mother, brothers, Jack Satterfield, Howard Satterfield, Fletcher Satterfield, Clifford Ledbetter, and her sister Lealia Satterfield; daughter-in-law Melba Savage and grandson-in-law Steven Couch.
P Cleo and Jacks marriage was blessed with two children, Patricia Savage Wimberley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Edd Savage of Frisco, Texas. She is survived by her children; four grandchildren: Carl Wimberley, Brett Wimberley and his wife Kelly, Tara Couch, and Shanda Bickelhaupt and her husban
