HARRIS, NIX CORDELIA E.Services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 1, 2008 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Cordelia Harris, age 90, of Roswell, who passed away January 28, 2008, at her home. Cecil Kimberlin the Vista Care Hospice Chaplain will officiate, with Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Cordelia was born May 30, 1917 in Caddo, Oklahoma to Henry E. and Willie Belle Boyd Nix, they have preceded her in death as well has her brothers and sister, Junor Ray Nix, Ruthie Mae Nix, James Nix, Scottie Nix and Jack Nix.
Her husband James Harris also preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include a son: Jerry Harris and his wife Kymberly of Belen, New Mexico; two grandchildren: Kenny Wentz and his wife Troy and Melissa Griffin; three great grandchildren: James Griffin, Cassandra Griffin, and Katlyn Madsen.
Cordelia taught school for eight years in Oklahoma, five years in Carrizozo, and twenty five years in Roswell. During World War II she took a two year leave of absence from teaching and moved to Dallas, TX where she worked in Air Craft Factory building B-24 bombers for the war. She attended Southeaster State University in Durant, Oklahoma where she received her teaching Degree and her Masters Degree in Education. She had been nominated to the Teacher Hall of Fame for the Southeastern District, she had received several teaching honors at the state and national levels. She was a member of the National Education Association, and a life member of the Teachers State Retiree Association. She was also Past President of the Rebecca Assembly.
