TIDWELL, DEAN Friends are invited to attend A Celebration of Life for Dean Tidwell, at 3027 Alhambra Dr., Saturday November 8, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
Dean Tidwell age 74, of Roswell, passed away October 24, 2008. He was born October 23, 1934 in Weslaco, Texas to Forrest and Emma Barnett Tidwell. They preceded him in death as well as his brother, Ralston Tidwell.
Dean married Carole Piperato on November 14, 1959 in Greentree, New Mexico. She survives him at the home.
Dean is survived by a daughter, Lore Chamberlin and her companion Chuck Perkins and two grandchildren Alex and Eryn Chamberlin, former son-in-law, Guy Chamberlin, of Roswell and niece, Michelle Keller of Los Gatos, California.
Dean graduated from Roswell High School in 1953. He served in the United States Navy 1953 - 1957. He earned his MBA from Eastern New Mexico University in 1979.
During his 41 year employment history, Dean had many interesting jobs- Radio Disc Jockey for radio stations KRRR, KYAP and KGFL; Police Officer in Ruidoso, New Mexico; News Director and Anchor for KSWS-TV; Community Relations Specialist, for Thiokols Employment Training Center, Public Relations Director for the Roswell Rehabilitation Center, Director of Personnel for St. Marys Hospital and later the Roswell Job Corp Center. In 1988, Dean and Carole relocated to Ogden, Utah where Dean became the Regional Director of Operations for Management Training Corporations inner-city Job Corp Centers located in Ohio, Illinois, Kansas, Indiana and Iowa. He retired in 2000.
Dean provided many guest editorials for the Roswell Daily Record, created the logo for Thiokols Employment Training Center, provided voice over narrations for many training and educational presentations- most notably narrations at exhibits for Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden Utah. Dean wrote an Eastern New Mexico University Oral Historical Collection transcript of Jeff Morley. He authored an article for New Mexico Magazine outlining Roswells recovery following the closure of Walker Air Force Base. He participated in many local community projects; including 1969 Chairman of Conventions Committee, 1970 Member of the Eastern New Mexico State Fair Board, Roswell Red Coats and he was a representative on the area Parent Teacher Association. Dean frequently was asked to provide his humor and talent as Master of Ceremony for numerous local fund raising events.
