THOMPSON, DEWARD F. Deward F. Thompson was born on March 19, 1920 in Granfield, Oklahoma to Benjamin Franklin and Sadie Thompson. Deward left this life and crossed to the far side bank of Heavens Jordan to meet his beloved wife, June, on August 14, 2009. June and Deward had been apart since her death on December 13, 2006 after a marriage of 63 years. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 P. M., Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery, where Roswell Veteran Honor Guard will provide military honors.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Jerrold Thompson, an infant great granddaughter Leah Elizabeth Sanders and an infant daughter Tonya Kay Thompson.

Survivors include three daughters, Oretta Graves and her husband Tommy, of Roswell, Lawanna Whitehead and her husband Elmer, of Kingston, Oklahoma and Yvonne Graves and her husband Bobby of Hobbs, NM. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Marie and Melvin Littlejohn of Portales, Madelyn and Gilbert McAllister of Auburn, California and JoAnn Barger of Los Banos, California; two brothers-in-law, D.W. Carson of Sierra Blanca, Texas and Jeri Lynn Carson of Chandler, Arizona.

Deward was raised in Floyd, NM and lived in Roswell for 50 years. Deward was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in Sicily, Italy and North Africa and was awarded a Purple Heart. After retirement, Deward and June became residents of Sunny Acres. After Junes death in 2006, dear friends at Sunny Acres provided loving support to Deward and the family is most grateful to all of them. He was also an active member at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Friends may make memorials in Dewards memory to the bus ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 115 West 11th St., Roswell, NM 88201.
