Doralea was born September 11, 1938 in Edinburg, Texas to Truman and Dora Sanders. Doralea grew up in Roswell, enjoying horseback riding, hunting and fishing with her brother and playing with her pets. During her high school years, she enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and hanging out with friends and family. She graduated from Roswell High School in 1956. She attended College at Mt. Vernon in Washington D.C. and at Southern Methodist University.
During a break from SMU, Dora and Truman took she and some of her girlfriends for a cruise on the Lauraline to Hawaii. They liked it so much that they wanted to stay. Her parents said okay if she could get a job. She promptly applied and was hired by a bank in Honolulu. Her father, Truman Sanders, always said, I didnt know she could make change for a dollar. While there she met the love of her life, Bob Bean from Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was a young Lieutenant stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Doralea married Lt. Robert H. Bean on June 25, 1960 in Honolulu, BRHawaii with her family and many members of Bob's 35th Infantry Battle Group in attendance. They had an adventurous life moving to many military bases throughout the United States and her husband was sent overseas several times.
Doralea was an outstanding military wife and devoted mother to her three daughters. They made many friends during their years in the service. In 1975, her husband retired as a Lt. Colonel and they returned to her hometown of Roswell. Doralea and Robert diligently managed the family ranches and businesses together. They delighted in watching their daughters grow up, marry, and have children of their own. They traveled, visited the ranches, took hunting trips, and attended dances and parties with their many friends. Doralea supported Bob in his Rotary Club activities and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor for the eradication of polio in the world. She was a member of the Grace Community Church, Assistance League, Morning Garden Club, Historical Society of Southeastern New Mexico, Roswell Museum and Art Center and Belles Beaux Dance Club.
Her parents, Truman and Dora, and brother, Leland L. Fellows have preceded her in death.
