CHEWNING, DORIS MAEServices are scheduled for Friday, May 17th, 2013 at 1 p.m. at West Country Club Road Church of Christ for Doris Mae Chewning, age 89 of Roswell. She passed away on May 14th in Lubbock. Doug Austin will officiate with interment to follow at South Park Cemetery in Roswell.
Doris was born September 19, 1923 in Oklahoma City to Joseph and Bessie Patterson. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Victor, and her loving husband of 64 years, Charles E. Chewning whom she married in Roswell on December 20, 1946.
She was active in local and state PTA and served as Area Council PTA President, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and active in church work: teaching and organizing numerous events for women over 30 years. Charles and Doris were charter members of Country Club Road Church of Christ. She worked parttime at Pete Kling pharmacy and worked alongside Charles at 3C Meats until they retired.
She is survived by one son: Charles Chewning II and his wife, Mildred, from Allen, Texas and their children, Charles Chewning III and his wife Maria of Madrid, Spain, and Alison Chewning of Allen, Texas one daughter, Patricia Galbraith and her husband, Mike, and their children, Yancey Galbraith and his wife, Arin, Zach Galbraith and his wife, Denise both of Lubbock, Texas Nine great grandchildren: Connor Charles and Carlota Chewning both of Madrid, Spain Halle, Emily, Grant, Noah, Caleb, Elijah, and Anna Galbraith all of Lubbock, Texas extended family, Melody McDaniel and her two daughters, Caryn and Kelli of Lubbock, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.
