CLARK, DORIS L.Well done My good and faithful servant those are the words heard as our beloved mom left us on May 26th and opened her eyes in the presence of our Lord.
From her upbringing in Hollywood California during the golden age of movies to her raising six children our mom leaves a legacy of love. She was married to Thurman Clark for over 53 years and they built a life in Roswell New Mexico raising their family. Mom retired from First Federal Savings and Loan in Roswell where she worked for years. Dori and Thurman are longtime members of First Baptist Church Roswell. Mom taught 3rd grade Sunday School making a difference in childrens lives for over 25 years. She had a costume collection unequaled that she would use in her teaching to bring bible characters to life. Many a school or church play used Moms costumes over the years. Mom and Dad were active in their adult Sunday School class and looked forward to the fellowship each week. They also loved to go to their cabin in Timberon and went as often as they were able.
Meme or Gram as she was known by all of her grandkids was a walking trivial pursuit answer lady in a number of different subjects. She knew words to songs long forgotten by most and could recall each lyric no matter how many decades had passed since the song was popular. She loved poetry and could recite poems with equal skill. She loved old movies and actually knew many of the actors from being raised in Hollywood. Always thoughtful and encouraging she always made the room brighter and more fun when she was there.
As hard as this time is, knowing that she is where she belongs surrounded by Gods glory comforts all of us with the peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace she would wish all to know. Even with the challenges that her last days would bring, her focus was on letting people know who had redeemed her.
Mom leaves her beloved husband Thurman. Her children Bill Hobson and wife Ann, George Sullivan and wife Svetlana , Kathy Barwick and husband Steve, Terrie Jones and husband Mark, Chuck Clark and Lori Marsh and husband Danny. Mom is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and scores of friends who will all miss her. She finished her race. A race run with perseverance, dignity and grace. It can be said of Mom that hers was a life well lived. A life that exemplified her love for our Savior and impacted everyone that knew her.
