DOROTHY JANE BERCKES Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church for Dorothy Jane Berckes, who passed away January 29, 2010. Rev. Jeff Finch will officiate.
Jane was born on August 27, 1921 to Howard W. and Elsie Holgate Stoker in Highland Park, Illinois, who have both preceded her in death. She moved to Chicago at the age of 4 where she was raised and educated.
On July 17, 1942, Jane married Edwin W. Berckes. In August of 1948, they moved to Roswell when he began teaching school. He preceded her in death in July 1986.
Jane was a homemaker but also was involved in many activities. She taught sewing for seven years under the Government H.E.L.P. program. She was secretary for the Regional Science Fair for seven years. She was a charter member of Misslamo Extension Club, active in county and district work. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, an ordained elder active in the local church, the Presbytery, and the Synod of the Southwest. She was also a member of ENMMC Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons: Edwin W. Bill Berckes Jr., and wife Constance of Roswell and Kenneth A. Berckes and wife Kathy of Bakersfield, California three grandchildren: James Berckes and his wife Kim of Lancaster, California, Tom Berckes of Roswell, and Dorothy Parsons and husband Jason of Deming, New Mexico four great grandchildren: Erika Berckes, Camron Berckes, Cassandra Berckes all of Lancaster, California and Lee Perkett of Deming, New Mexico a brother, Howard Stoker and wife Annette of Knoxville, Tennessee a sister: Barbara Hartford and husband W.M. of Roswell also numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
