Dorothy “Dot” Mae Fuqua, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on March 29th 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy Mae Fuqua was born on January 20th, 1937 to Mack and Della Reynolds of Lake Aurthur. Dorothy had many jobs throughout her life from working at the Gas Co in Artesia, The office for H&J Grocery Store, Clovis Pump Co, NM Transportation in Roswell, to being part of the Merry Maids team in Roswell; along with being a devoted wife, a caring mother, a loving grandmother, and a loyal friend. She had a green thumb like you wouldn’t believe, causing any plant to absolutely thrive under her care and turning her backyard into a colorful paradise where she spent most of her time. When she wasn’t tending to her plants, she was in the kitchen baking her infamous angel food cake or her banana bread, as well as trying out new recipes for friends and family; many of which will be cherished for generations to come. She thoroughly enjoyed painting and doing any sort of arts and crafts, creating beautiful picturesque scenes and intricate designs on not only canvas, but on rocks, flower pots, mirrors, and clothing as well; turning everything she touched into a beautiful piece of artwork with pieces of her soul carefully placed into them. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mack Reynolds and Della King, her siblings, Mirla Merritt and Joe Reynolds, her husband, Pat Fuqua, and her son, John Wesley Needham Jr. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Jones, her daughter, Jana Camp, and her husband Ronald Camp, and her two grandchildren, Kyle Smith and Kieran Gonzales, and her husband Barnabas Gonzales. Dorothy was the embodiment of sunshine, lighting up every room she walked into as well as every heart she touched. She hated being out after dark and always did her best to be home before the sun would set. For one final time, Dorothy took her last breath as the sun was setting, ensuring that she would be Home before it got dark. Her legacy will live on through the memories we shared, the values she instilled in us, and the unconditional love she gave. We take solace in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with the loved ones who have passed on before her. A funeral service will be held at South Park Cemetery, 3101 S Main St, Roswell NM on April 18th, 2025 at 1PM, followed by a reception at Highland Baptist Church, 2001 S Lea Ave, Roswell NM. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering and honoring this remarkable woman. You will forever be our guiding light.
