Dovie Hopper

HOPPER, DOVIE L. - A lifetime resident of Roswell, Dovie L. Hopper, age 87, of Roswell passed away April 30, 2016. Dovie will lie in state all day Tuesday May 3, 2016 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday May 4, 2016 at Memory Lawn Memorial Park. Pastor Lonnie Owen of Christ Church will be officiating.
Dovie was born to H.R. and Willie Irene Fry-Davis on January 31, 1929 in Roswell, New Mexico. Dovie married the love of her life Paul L. Hopper on September 20, 1947 in Lubbock, Texas. She worked as an operator for Mountain Bell for several years. She also worked at Roswell State Bank as a bookkeeper from 1960 till about 1980.Dovie traveled with her beloved husband throughout the United States while he was working. She enjoyed their travels, meeting new people, and seeing the various states. She loved quilting and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren; they will be cherished for many years. She worked in her gardens providing vegetables not only for her family and friends but donated all of the extras to the food kitchens. She would not waste the fresh vegetables. She was a loving wife and mother. She kept up-to-date on everyone, even the very youngest of her great grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and that was her purpose in life. Dovie was a lifetime resident of Roswell.
She is preceded in death by her husband Paul L Hopper; her parents H.R. and Willie Irene Fry-Davis; and her sister Clora B. and her husband Fred Bartlett.
She is survived by her son Hershel Alan Hopper and his wife Doneta of Roswell, NM; 2 daughters Kayla A. Pratt and her husband Carl of Clovis, NM; Paula L. Hopper of Roswell, NM; sister Betty Lou Ferrell and her husband Buddy of Kingman, AZ; grandchildren Randy Pratt, Paul Pratt and his wife Staci Fife, Tasha Curry and her husband Caleb, Clint Hopper and his wife Kecia, Matthew Hopper and his wife Stef, Dillon Hopper and his wife Stephanie; great grandchildren Tyler Pratt, Amanda Pratt, Heather Pratt, Tori Pratt, Wyatt Curry, and Kason Hopper.
Dovie was blessed to have had exceptional and loving care by Kristy and all the others at Comfort Keepers, as well as, Anita and the staff of Gentiva Hospice. A special thank you to Dominique for her time and care as well.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Pratt, Paul Pratt, Tasha Curry, Clint Hopper, Matthew Hopper, and Dillon Hopper.
