Edd B. Sherman --- Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Friday, February 8, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2801 West 4th Street, Roswell for Edd Sherman, age 92, of Roswell, New Mexico who passed away peacefully February 2, 2008 at his apartment in Roswell after about a year of increasing illness.
Edd Sherman was born August 28, 1915 in Seminole, Texas to Forest Lane and Mary D. Ramsey Sherman. Both are deceased. Edd attended Roswell Public Schools. He lived a few years in Carlsbad, NM, and a short while in San Antonio, Texas. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corp as a B-29 crew chief and was stationed on Saipan. After the war he was Supply Supervisor at Walker Air Force Base from December 1945 until Walker AFB closed in 1967. From 1967 until 1980 he was Maintenance Supervisor for the Roswell School System.
Edd is survived by Ruth Sherman, his wife of 66 years, his brother Sam Sherman of Roswell, his two children Robert Sherman Col USAF Retired and his wife Kathleen of Roswell and Ann Cooper and her husband Ralph of Mocksville, North Carolina, four grandchildren, Sarah Clark and her husband Steven, Lane Choplin and his wife, Larkyn, Leslie Choplin and Blake Choplin, and two great grandchildren, Emma and Robert Clark.
After retirement, Edd and Ruth enjoyed traveling in the states and overseas. Edd was an elder for 60 years at the First Presbyterian Church and at Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Roswell Masonic Lodge No. 18 AF and AM, and York Rite of Free Masonry and of the Roswell Chamber of Commerce. In pursuing his desire to promote Roswell to visitors, Edd held the most volunteer hours for the Roswell Red Coats for several years. He was Man of the Year for Roswell Sertoma and District Sertoma. All Roswell Civic Clubs honored him in 1979.
A hallmark characteristic of Edd Sherman was his unsurpassed integrity and honesty. He always had a kind word for the people he met and consequently was loved by all those who knew him. Foremost, Edd always loved and constantly showed great affection for his wife Ruth. All those who knew Edd will dearly miss this shining example of the Greatest Generation.
