Eddie L. Burns, age 59, of Roswell, succumbed to Glioblastoma at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque on July 12, 2017. Visitation 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Sunday, July 16, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, July 17, 2017 at Grace Community Church, 935 W. Mescalero Rd, Roswell. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Pastor Rick Hale will be officiating.
Eddie was born May 4, 1958 in Roswell, New Mexico to John F. Burns and Jewel Small Burns. Eddie was a man of God and spent his life serving his church, Grace Community Church, leading the Singles Ministry, ministering to prisoners, and bringing people to Christ. Eddie worked in the supermarket industry for over 40 years and retired in August 2016. He also served as Vice President for the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union. Eddie loved spending his spare time watching the Dallas Cowboys and sporting anything navy and silver. He was an extra in several movies over his lifetime to include Dress Grey, Silent Tongue, Coyote County Loser all filmed in Roswell. He participated in the Senior Olympics for 7 years and was awarded numerous gold metals. Eddie was also a dare devil. He enjoyed living on the edge by Sky jumping from the Stratosphere Hotel in Las Vegas and Rock Climbing. He always found time for skiing and enjoyed snorkeling as well. Eddie truly enjoyed living life and was always available to help a friend when needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents John F. Burns and Jewel Small.
Eddie is survived by his two daughters, Lashae Burns, of Roswell, and Jessica Hooser and her husband, Ryan of Cypress, TX; six grandchildren, Nathanael Vaughn, Jonah Vaughn, Simone Hooser, Addison Hooser, Noah Hooser and Austin Hooser; his two sisters, Debbie Staeden and Brenda Prichard, both of Roswell.
