Elaine A. LeGrand Nibert, 91, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born on June 14, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio to Victor Henry LeGrand and Mildred Irene Brown LeGrand. In the 1950's, she traveled to Roswell to visit her sister Bonnie Sorenson. She began working at Walker Air Force Base where she met an airman - Jim Nibert. On November 3,1956, she and Jim were married. After Jim was discharged from the Air Force, they moved to Portales so Jim could attend ENMU.
They then moved to Clovis, where she worked as a supply buyer and construction contract administrator before becoming the Deputy Chief of the Contracting Division at Cannon Air Force Base. She retired in 1988 after 30 years of service. Jim and Elaine lived in Clovis, New Mexico for 40 years, moving back to Roswell in 2004. Elaine was an active member of W. 21s* Street Church of Christ in Clovis and after returning to Roswell placed her membership with Country Club Road Church of Christ. In Clovis, she was a member of the American Business Women's Association and Beta Sigma Phi. In Roswell, she was a member of the Chaves County Republican Women, Roswell Junior Book Club, Petro Club, Roswell Woman's Club, Klassie Lassie Birthday Club, and the Monday Lunch Bunch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother Isadore LeGrand; her husband Jim; her sister Bonnie Sorenson; her brother Victor LeGrand Jr. and his wife Virginia.
She is survived by her son Greg and his wife Carolyn of Roswell; daughter Kim and her husband Eddie Meeks of Clovis; four grandchildren - Jennifer McDaniel and her husband Gabe Pfeiffer, David McDaniel, Gregory Nibert and Jeff Nibert; one precious great granddaughter Harlow Rose Pfeiffer; numerous nieces and nephews; and her brother-in-law and dear friend Dave Sorenson.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Santa Fe.
Elaine and her family request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the NEW MEXICO CHRISTIAN CHILDREN'S HOME, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130-9983.
Elaine and her family would like to thank Dr. John Truitt and the wonderful staff at the Cancer Center at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, caregivers Priscilla and Rosie, and hospice nurse Bonnie Hummel for the support and care they all provided. Elaine had the most wonderful friends and we thank each of you for providing happiness, laughter, and love in her life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
