ERNEST M. SHORTY HILL, JR. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Memory Lawn Cemetery for Shorty Hill, age 80, who passed away at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center on October 13, 2007. Rev. Archie Echols of First United Methodist Church of Roswell will officiate.
Shorty was born on September 12, 1927 to Ernest M. Hill, Sr. and Anna Crump Hill in Tahoka, Texas. The have preceded him in death as well as his sister, Dorothy De Shurley and his brother-in-law George S. De Shurley.
Shorty married Eleanor Hinrichsen on September 12, 1947 in Hagerman, NM and they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She survives him at the family home.
Shorty is also survived by his sister: Jo Ann Haddock and her husband N.C. Buckey Haddock; children Pam Kennedy and Jim Hill both of Roswell; grandchildren John Kennedy, Jr. and wife Heather, Shawn Kennedy, James Hill, Jr. and wife Natalie, Randall Kennedy; and three great-grandchildren Jaclyn Serru, Nichole Hill and Evan Kennedy, and by several nieces and nephews.
Shorty attended Roswell High, New Mexico Military Institute and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales where he met Eleanor. He served in China during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was the owner operator of Shorty Hills Chevron Service Station for over 25 years.
Memorials may be made to the Cowboy Bell Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church of Roswell, New Mexico Military Institute Alumni Association or the charity of your choice.
