Eva Hendricks

October 11, 1917 — August 2, 2012

HENDRICKS, EVAFuneral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 6, 2012 at Christs Church, for Eva Hendricks who passed away on August 2, 2012. Interment will follow in South Park Cemetery. Pastor Willis Richardson and Pastor Lyman Graham will officiate.

Eva was born at Elk, NM on October 11,1917 to Austin and Eula Woodson Reeves. Her childhood, by all accounts a very happy one, was spent on the family ranch in southern Chaves County. Austin Reeves, a lay Methodist preacher, made sure that his eleven children grew up in a strong Christian home. A favorite family outing was attending gospel music Singing Conventions. As a teenager, Eva attended high school and business college in Roswell, then worked for a time at FW Woolworth and J.C. Pennys.

On January 9, 1937, Eva married Howard Hendricks. During the many years the couple farmed near Roswell, Eva was active in her church and with her children activities in school and 4H. She and Howard loved to go to local dances, which were often held in someones home in those days. Eva was especially light on her feet and very much in demand as a waltz partner. In fact, she continued to enjoy dancing well into her nineties, often going dancing a couple of nights a week. And, yes, she still had a full dance card.

Eva loved her family, and she had a lot of family to love. She is survived by daughters Martha Rains, and Sheila Richardson and her husband James, sons Larry Hendricks and Lonnie Hendricks and his wife Gennean eight grandchildren, nineteen greatgrandchildren and five greatgreatgrandchildren and her sister, Thelma Harwell.

Her parents preceded her in death as did sisters Elva Hogsett, Betty Ledlow, Tempie Cox, Truth Yearwood, Ottie McGuire, Leticia Beavers and Madie Teel and brothers Lonnie Reeves and Loren Reeves. Also preceding her in death were her husband Howard and daughter Rita Mae.

Pall bearers will be Evas grandchildren, while her many nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pall bearers.
