CRAWFORD, BENTON FLETCHER FLETCH--A Funeral Service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Wednesday November 26, 2008 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Fletch Crawford, who passed away November 21, 2008.

Fletcher Crawford, 85, was born September 10, 1923 in Roswell, NM to Donnie Lee Brownlee and Oscar Benton Crawford. He served his country in the Army Air Corps from December 8, 1941 the day after Pearl Harbor to December 1945. Fletch married Erma Whitcamp in December 1944, and Roswell has been their home for the past 64 years.

Fletch and Erma raised five children; three daughters, one son, and one nephew - Nettie Crawford and husband, Robert Pfister of Lubbock, TX; Shirley Crawford and husband, Gary Cozzens of Capitan, NM; Nancy Bartley and husband, Byron Bartley of Artesia, NM, Tommy Fletcher Crawford and wife, Judy of Colorado Springs, CO; and Woody Crawford and wife, Ann of Las Cruces, NM. Fletch and Erma have six granddaughters - Aimee Cvancara of Anthem, AZ; Emily Brown of Mesa, AZ; Jamie Miele of Flagstaff, AZ; Tracy Spivey of Roswell, NM; Toni Welch of Chattanooga, TN; and Kristi Crawford of Roswell, NM. They also have four great granddaughters and seven great grandsons. Each of them was his favorite, and he was their favorite bedtime storyteller.

Fletch was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers- Lawrence Harmon Crawford, Oscar Fay Crawford, Clarence Woodrow Crawford, and one sister, Lena Mae Eaton.

Fletch farmed in the Berrendo area from the time he was out of the Service to the present. He served for many years on the Berrendo School Board, Farmers Inc. Board, and the NM Association of Soil and Water Conservation District committee. Fletch was a firm believer in good conservation practices, and received both the Goodyear Award for Outstanding Soil Conservationist, and A Friend of the Land award from the NM Bankers Association in 1962. He also received an outstanding award for his work with the Chaves County Soil and Water Conservation District in 1986. Fletch was a member of the Valley Daylight Masonic Lodge 79, a Past Master of the Hondo Masonic Lodge 74, and a member of Roswell Chapter 10, Order of Eastern Star.

Pallbearers will be: Byron Bartley, Josh Brown, Gary Cozzens, Ryan Cvancara, Danny Crawford, Woody Crawford Jr, Adam Miele, Robert Pfister and Aaron Welch. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the Roswell Masonic Lodges, Special Friends: Pug Thigpen, Herb Finney, Bill Bass, and Fletchs fellow coffee drinkers at Prices and Whataburger that he enjoyed so much.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, co Roswell Shrine Club, Box 1512, Roswell, NM 88202.

Services are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
