Florence Melendez

Melendez, Florence Ena Florence Ena Melendez went to Heaven on May 18, 2012 at Mission Arch Care Center. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church. Pastor Garry Schwalk of First Baptist Church of Ruidoso will officiate.
Ena Melendez was born on a farm in England in 1924. She met and married Filbert Melendez during the turbulence of WWII, who was an American airman form Roswell stationed in England. They married on July 7, 1945, before Fil was sent back to the United States.
Ena traveled by sea to New York and then by train to Roswell in 1946. What a culture shock it was Everything was different the clothing, food, and language compared to her proper English customs.
With a business degree Ena received in England, she quickly found a job as secretary at Atwood and Malone law firm. She felt as though she was becoming a true American by working in the law office. Her British accent did turn a few heads at her workplace. Ena felt that Americans were pretty friendly and quickly made new friends.
What made her feel most welcome were the members of First Baptist Church. Fil took her to church soon after her arrival and introduced her to the whole congregation. They have been her family for over 60 years.
Ena taught Sunday School in the preschool department for 40 years and 3rd grade training union for many years as well. She loved working with children as she served the Lord at First Baptist.
Ena is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Youngman and her husband Steve of Roswell, Rebecca White of Albuquerque, and four grandchildren Heather Youngman of Roswell, Heidi Youngman of San Diego, Meghan and Ryan Cheshire of Albuquerque and Ben White of Albuquerque. Sisters and Brothersinlaws: Eddie and Connie Melendez, Ruth and Julio Ramos, Grace and Gil Jaramillo of Albuquerque, Manuel Melendez of Washington D.C., Nephew David Ford and wife Rosemarie of England.
She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
