YATER, FRANCES JEAN -- Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 8, 2007, at La Grone Funeral Chapel, for Frances J. Jean Yater, age 86, of Roswell, who passed away February 4, 2007, at Eastern new Mexico Medical Center. George Elkins and Elton Dilbeck of West Country Club Church of Christ will conduct the service. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Jean was born November 27, 1920 in Loraine, Texas to William and Esther Hunt Yater. She spent her early childhood on farms and ranches around Colorado City, Lamesa and Big Spring, Texas, where she graduated from high school in 1939. She began work at Wackers 5 10, where she was the assistant manager. After several years she began working for Safeway store and remained there until retirement.
Jean and her mother moved to Roswell after her dad passed away to be near her only sister Louise Callens. Her mother passed away in 1971. Jean never married, but spent many years enjoying her two adorable dogs, Trixie and Tootles.
She was a member of the Country Club Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sister, Louise Callens, of Roswell, a niece, Lyndah Drum of Dallas, TX, a nephew, Dwight Callens and his wife Sandra of Meridian, Mississippi, several cousins, including David and Kay Yater of Irving, TX, and Wesley Yater of Big Spring, TX.
Pallbearers will be Jerry McCormack, Glen Browning, Delbert Nelson, Jerry Stanley, S. C. Morrow and Ralph Vernon.
