GONZLEZ NUEZ, FRANCISCA Memorial services are scheduled for 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Francisca Chica Nuez Gonzlez, age 85, of Roswell who passed away April 22, 2010. On Monday, April 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM, Rev. Mario Hernndez of Lubbock, TX, will officiate a funeral service at First Baptist Church located at 500 North Penn. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving visitors at 38 Deborah Drive following the graveside services.
Francisca was born on October 3, 1924 in Guanasev, Durango, Mexico, to Clarita Nuez. Francisca was preceded in death by her mother Clarita, daughter, Mara de los ngeles, a son, Julian, sisters, Catalina Dvila, Sacramento Benitez, and brother, Gilberto Nuez.
Francisca was married to Merced Gonzlez on March 24, 1943 in Guanasev, Durango, Mxico. They had just celebrated their 67th Anniversary. He survives her at the family home.
Francisca was a homemaker, a member of the Senior Circle, and of the Baptist faith. In 1993, she was the subject of a Mothers Day article in the Roswell Daily Record listing her children and grandchildrens achievements. In 2002, she and her husband were chosen as Don and Doa by the Piata Festival Committee. Francisca was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in a variety of sports. One of her favorite past times, however, was finding treasures at local garage sales. Grandma Chica, as she was affectionately known by her many grandchildren, loved gardening. Her home was well known throughout the city of Roswell as the house on Garden St. with the elaborate rose garden. She made it her goal to crochet a blanket for each new addition to the family. Shed often make the most elaborate meals out of the simplest ingredients. Her strong character was accompanied by an equally strong humility and friendliness for everyone she met. She took it upon herself to become an unofficial ambassador, helping new families from Mxico find their way in their new environment. The impact of her life will be felt for many generations to come through her influence on her children and grandchildren. Chica will always be loved, remembered, and missed by the incredible number of lives shes touched.
She is survived by her daughters: Clotilde Lake and her husband Kenneth of Houston, TX, Gloria de la Pea of Roswell sons: Isidro Gonzlez and his wife Melinda of Roswell, Benjamn Gonzlez and his wife Nancy of Las Cruces, Frank Gonzlez and his wife Marsha of Roswell, David Gonzlez and his wife Mary of Roswell, Armando Army Gonzlez and his wife Sharlene of Roswell, Danny Gonzlez of Roswell, Merced Gonzlez Jr. and his wife Ruth of Roswell, and Robert Gonzlez of Roswell 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Marcos Gonzlez, Toms Gonzlez, Tommy Guzman, Adn de la Pea, Andrs de la Pea, Omar Gonzlez, Danny Gonzlez Jr., and Isaac Hicks. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Graciela Moore, Mnica Toby, Andrea de la Pea, Cndida Romero, Ludivina Gonzlez, Anglica Gonzlez, Amanda Salinas, Francisca Ins Lpez, Angie Hicks, Danielle Gonzlez, Elissia Gonzlez, and Marissa Gonzlez.
