BAXLEY, GARNETLU A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Roswell to celebrate the life of Garnetlu Baxley, 80, who passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 29, 2012.
Garnetlu was born August 5,1932, to Leslie Floyd and Zeola Hartzell in Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
Garnetlu was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Floyd and Zeola Hartzell her husband, Kenneth Baxley, and son, Jerry Baxley.
She is survived by her daughter Julie Baxley of Roswell son, Kendall Baxley and his wife, Heather of Mesa, Arizona. daughter, Melissa Seley and her husband, Frank of Roswell along with three beautiful granddaughters who were the lights of her life Claire Seley, Rylee Baxley, and Bethany BaxleyGrow and her newest joy, great grandson Ryker Scott Grow. Garnetlu is also survived by one sister, Wanda Lee Cowart of Spokane, Washington.
In 1940, Garnetlus family made the move from Oklahoma to Roswell by train. With her outgoing personality, Garnetlu quickly made life long friends with nearly everyone she met, as was her way.
In 1953, she married her true love, Kenneth Baxley. They made Roswell their home and raised their four children here
Garnetlu started a career in banking at an early age and worked in the field for over fifty years. She loved helping all of her customers over the years, being proud of the fact that she had given lollipops to three generations along the way. After retiring from banking in 1989, Garnetlu pursued a second career in insurance. She combined her love of customer service with her knowledge of the industry to help countless families with their insurance needs.
While always a working mother, Garnetlus top priorities have always been faith and family. Her example of perseverance and unconditional love will always live in the hearts of her children and will be her lasting legacy.
