Genacile Jackson

October 6, 1927 — July 6, 2012

Genacile Dayle Shaha Jackson passed away peacefully on July 6 in Roswell, New Mexico surrounded by family members. Though Genacile moved to Roswell for several happy years late in her life, she always thought of the Clayton area as her home. She was born to Everett and Edith Gibbons Shaha on October 6, 1927 near Sedan, New Mexico, and she was raised on the family farm near Sedan along with a brother, Everett Earl, and two sisters, Juanita and Nadine. As a young girl, Genacile attended elementary school and junior high in Sedan, but she transferred to Clayton to attend Clayton High School where she graduated in 1944. On June 8, 1952 in the United Brethren Church in Sedan, she married the love of her life, James H. Jackson, Jr. Except for a brief time when they resided in South Carolina during his service in the U.S. Air Force, they spent the next 50 years living in Clayton where they raised their three children.

Genacile was a dedicated wife and loving mother who always considered her family and her faith as the most important facets of her life. In addition to her heartfelt devotion to her family, she was proud of pursuing a career, working at several jobs in Clayton, notably at the Farmers and Stockmens Bank from 1944 to 1952 and Clayton Public Schools from 1967 to 1982. Genacile was a longtime and loyal member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Belles Lettres Book Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and she served for years as a leader for local Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations.

Genaciles beloved husband Jim, her brother Everett Earl Shaha, and one sister, Juanita Smith preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Nadine Roberts of Springer her sisterinlaw, Betty Polk of Amarillo numerous nephews and nieces and her three children and their families: Ken Jackson, his wife Christine, and their children James and Kathryn Marcia Dayle Gardner, her husband Joe and their children Kimberly Grubbs and Travis and Cynthia Gayle Green, her husband Steve and their children Garrett and Denise.

Memorials are planned in both Roswell and Clayton. In Roswell, visitation will be held at LaGrone on Sunday July 8 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In Clayton, memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. Church services will be followed by a graveside observance at the Clayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Genaciles family requests that donations be made in her name to support the Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church, the Clayton High School scholarship fund, or your favorite charity.
