George R. Swenson
February 3,1945 – March 31, 2025
Roswell, NM
George R. Swenson, 80, of Roswell, NM, passed away on March 31, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL, on February 3, 1945, George proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He later continued his service to the skies as the manager of the Roswell air traffic control tower, retiring from the FAA after a long and dedicated career.
A lifelong lover of aviation, George held a personal pilot's license and spent many happy hours in the air during his younger years - and virtually, in retirement. He and his wife, Patty, to whom he was married for 56 years, served as general managers of the Roswell Invaders baseball team for nine seasons. They opened their home to many players as a host family and cherished the friendships they built through baseball.
A music enthusiast, George played with the Roswell Community Band in retirement, often joking that he could "still count to four." He also found joy in woodworking, gifting many of his beautifully crafted signature crosses to friends and family. Above all, George deeply loved his family - his sons, his grandson, and the life they shared. He will be remembered for his service to his country, his generosity, his love of aviation and music, his craftsmanship, and especially his sense of humor.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Myra "Patty" Swenson; his sons, Christopher Swenson and wife Christal, and Robert Swenson and wife Kathie; and his cherished grandson, Brady Swenson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harris and Mildred Swenson, and his sister, Janet Myer.
In honor of George's life and legacy, memorial contributions may be made to the Roswell Humane Society at www.roswellhumane.org, or to support the Roswell Invaders baseball team's travel expenses by donating to the Invaders Baseball Booster account at Pioneer Bank, Attn: Leigh Humble, P.O.
