Georgia Porter

March 8, 1924 — March 4, 2019

PORTER, "MARIE" GEORGIA-Marie was born on March 8, 1924 in Clayton, NM to Richard ( Dick) and Margia H. Camden Boyles. She was the third child of eighteen. As a child the family moved to Portales, NM where she graduated from Portales High School.
She met the love of her life A.J. (Jay) Porter. They were married September 14, 1943. The were blessed with two daughters Joann and Margia Marie.
She worked on several farms and ranches in Roosevelt and Chaves County's until she felt the call to become a teacher at the age of 31. She attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, graduating with a B.A in education.
In 1959 she and her family moved to Roswell, where she began teaching at Flora Vista Elementary School, where she taught at for 19 years. She then moved to Sunset Elementary School where she taught for 8 more years until her retirement in 1986. She never had a student that she did not love dearly.
She was a faithful member of Berrendo Baptist Church and loved her church family. After retirement she and A.J. enjoyed fishing in Ruidoso NM, and Anchorage, AK. She also enjoyed crochet, embroidery and other crafts making gifts for family and friends.
On her 90th birthday she visited her great-grandsons at Cal-Farley Boys Ranch, TX where she caught the biggest trout she had ever seen.
Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents Dick and Margia Boyles, her husband Jay Porter, one daughter Margia (Tiny) Marie and husband Tommy Ball, nine sisters, and seven brothers.
Those who carry on her legacy are her daughter JoAnn Boughton and husband Bob, Sister Evelyn Combs and husband George, grandchildren Robert and Paula Boughton, Richard and Patti Boughton, Randy Boughton, Rhonda and husband Keith Anselmo, Rushele and Mike Endres, Russell Boughton, Kelli Richerson, 17 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
We want to thank the members of Berrendo Baptist church for all the support and food that they have provided and a very special thank you to Rosemary Thomas for all her devoted love and Compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at Grace Community Church 935 W Mescalero Rd, Roswell, NM, on Monday, March 11, 2019, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made out to Cal- Farley Boys Ranch 600 SW 11th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79101. Baptist Children's Home 2200 S Ave 1, Portales NM, 88130. And in honor of great nephew Garrett Dodson , A-T Childrens Project 5300 W Hillsboro Blvd #105, Coconut Creek, FL 33073.
