MEEKS, HARUKO (FRECKLES)- Haruko (Freckles) Meeks, 90, beloved Mother, Mema, and friend, was called to her eternal resting place on Friday, December 18, 2020.
Haruko entered this world on March 28, 1930, in Osaka, Japan. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Carol Larez and Polly Coles; sons, William Meeks, and his wife Lori; Ralph Meeks, and his wife Tess; and Jimmy Meeks and his wife Lyndia. Her grandchildren include Maria and Jesse Larez; William and Katia Meeks; Chelsea, Megan and Brianna Meeks; Taylor Barnard and her husband Cameron; Alex Meeks, and his wife Theresa, Ayrin Meeks and Andrew Meeks, and his fiancé Brittany McNamara; Valenica Palmer, Tamica, and her husband Richard Jones; Lakisha, and her husband, Gregg Cassell; and James Meeks. Her great-grandchildren includes: Jeremiah Larez and his fiancé Ashley Soto; Stephanie Good, Adam Herring, Isabelle Larez; Cruz and Isaiah Larez; Faith Galvan, Iciss and Nicholia Garza, Yemariah and Silas Williams; Xzavier Jones; Morgan and Titus Cassell; and Ellis Barnard. Her great-great grandchildren include: Jaedacy, Jenacy and Josia Larez.
Haruko was preceded in death by her parents and siblings in Japan. She moved to the United States at the age of 27. She spoke very little English when she arrived, but quickly learned how to read, write and speak English. She worked at Levis Strauss in Roswell, NM where she retired. She made many friends at Levis, and many of them called her “Freckles”. She was nationalized as a U.S.A. citizen and was a member of Gateway Church International, Roswell, NM. Haruko was a truly kind and loving person who will be greatly missed. Her wishes were to have no services and a private spreading of her ashes.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Mission Arch Center and Kindred Hospice, and Kim Cavin for her years of care of Haruko.
