PRICE, HELEN VIRGINIA CULLENDER Helen Virginia Cullender Price, a life-long resident, was born on August 21, 1919 to Thomas and Lou Etta Cullender. She passed away on June 13, 2008 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by loving family members. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel, at 9:00 A. M. with Pastor Pat Bush officiating. Interment will be at South Park Cemetery.
Helen was one of eleven children born to her pioneer parents who homesteaded in Roswell in 1917. She is survived by one sister, Margaret Merritt of Pinon, New Mexico; her son Gene Price and his wife Mary; and her daughter Jinger Price. Other surviving family includes 7 grandchildren, including Mark Willard and his wife Cindy of Roswell, Murray Roberson and wife Yvonne of Denver, CO, Laurel Roberson of Denver, Co, Ginifer Buckley and husband Rich of Albuquerque, NM, Perry Price and wife Deborah of Roswell, Rod Price and wife Colleen of Roswell and Amy Price of Odessa, TX. In addition, Helen is survived by 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young woman, Helen worked in the Roswell downtown law office of her oldest brother James M. H. Cullender. Helen and T. E. Bud Price were married on November 28, 1937. The industrious young couple opened their business named Buds Place on East Second Street. The business was later re-located to North Main and remains today as their family-owned Prices Truck Stop. Helen was a shrewd business woman who embraced hard work with a can-do attitude. As a child, she learned to make-do, share, or do without. Helen will be remembered as a generous, loving, and supportive wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She had a quick smile and a wicked sense of humor. These traits immediately brought smiles to faces of those around her. She was a family model for compassion, generosity of self and possessions, along with her strong moral character and boundless energy.
For 30 years, Helen and Bud owned a cabin in Ruidoso area where they enjoyed rest, fresh-air and fragrant pine trees. Helen and Bud generously shared their cabin and their vacation time with many family members and friends.
Helen was a long-standing member of the First Christian Church. In addition, she enjoyed membership to the Order of Eastern Star, Hi Hopes Extension Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Rebekahs.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, nine siblings and one great-granddaughter.
