Helen Reed slept quietly away on May 21, 2019 after a brief illness. She was 101 years old. Helen's life was guided by her deep Christian faith which she showed in her life every day. Her smile was generous and her ways were kind. She loved and was loved. She was truly a woman of substance.
Helen Reed was born in E. Norwalk, Ct. on October 11, 1917 to Fritz and Borghild Wallin. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1935 and attended Business College. Prior to WWII, she worked as a secretary for a congressman in Washington, D.C.
She married the love of her life, Henry W. Reed ("Hank") on November 7, 1942 and made her home with him in Jamestown, N.Y. She had two sons, Mark H. Reed and Ted L. Reed. Helen worked in the school system where she was a secretary to three school superintendents.
She retired and moved to Roswell, N.M. with "Hank" in 1975. Helen played the piano and the organ. Her family often gathered around the organ to sing Christmas carols. Later in her retirement Helen took up watercolor painting and gave out many hand painted cards to her many friends
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Marie Smith, Her husband, Henry W. Reed, her son, Mark Reed, and a grandson, Troy Sager
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ted L. Reed (Sandra); grandchildren; Lisa Schroeder (Dan); David Reed Nicole Swinney (Johnny), grand daughter-in-law Annie Sager; and 8 great grandchildren. She also leaves two nieces, Celeste Kerns. And Lisa Smith.
A memorial service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran church in Roswell, N.M. on Thursday May 30th, 2019 at 10:30 am with a light lunch to follow.
The family requests that memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
