JENNINGS, HENRY W. -- Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2009 at Tabernacle Baptist Church for Henry W. Jennings, age 96, of Roswell, who passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Martins Casa Siesta in Roswell, NM. Dr. Onsy Whicker Dr. Geary Miller of Tabernacle Baptist Church will officiate, with special music by Susan Hunter. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.

BRHenry was born on June 18, 1913 in Rosenburg, TX to Nephus and Ulala Walker Jennings. He had three brothers; Roy, Lewis, Tom one sister: Jenny Mae Flornoy. Parents all siblings have preceded him in death. On December 1, 1934, he married Leona B. Waggoner in Roswell, NM until she passed away on March 21, 2000. They were married 65 years, 3 months and 21 days. BRBRHenry is survived by one son: Kenneth R. Jennings his wife Shirley of Roswell; a daughter: Marla L. Purcell her husband Ed of Roswell; four grandchildren: Randy C. Jennings of Roswell, Sondra K. Jennings of Lumberton, TX, DeEtta R. Beasley of Artesia, NM Justin W. Purcell of Colorado Springs, CO; four great-grandchildren: Stephanie R. Jennings of Las Cruces, NM, Matthew A. Jennings of Roswell, Kayla R Beasley Kya C. Beasley, both of Artesia.

Henry was a farmer of the Baptist Faith. He was a long time member of the NM Farm Livestock Bureau, Farm Credit of NM the Hagerman Lions Club.
PHenry attended various schools in TX, NM AZ, and finished his formal education in Roswell at East Grand Plains School. His Dad had bought a farm near East Grand Plains Henry worked for his Dad and other neighbors until 1932 at which time he moved in with the Ben Waggoner family, working on his other farms until he became ill with typhoid fever. After his recovery, Henry married Ben Waggoners oldest daughter; Leona on Dec. 1st, 1934. In 1935, Henry went to work for SPS at the Ice Plant on Sep. 3rd, their son was born. While continuing to work for SPS, Henry built and owned his first house located on E. Alameda St. in Roswell. The house had no electricity, running water, nor indoor plumbing until much later. While living in this house, his daughter was born on Nov. 13th, 1942. The next year Henry rented the Greening farm on E. Alameda St. while still working for SPS. Henry worked for SPS until 1945, at which time he started farming full time rented the Ladora Lucas Farm on E. 2nd St. where part of the rental agreement was Henry had to build another house to live in. Henry his family lived worked on the Lucas Farm from 1945-1948. In 1949, Henry, with partner brother-in-law, Bennie Waggoner, bought 140 acres including 90 acres of farmland in Hagerman, NM moved onto that farm. After buying out his partner, Henry his family continued to live and farm in Hagerman. In 1967, Henry formed a partnership with his son, Kenneth, Jennings Jennings.
