A memroial serice will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.. Cremation has taken place under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

Herbert R. Avery was born in Roswell on May 8, 1928, to Herbert R. Avery, Sr., and Blanche Chinn Avery. He graduated from Roswell High School in 1945, and from Chillicothe Business School, Chillicothe, MO. Herb served in the NM National Guard, the United States Air Force, and the Missouri State Guard, while he was in college. Following his Air Force Service, he was in the Air Force Reserves. He was an accountant, and worked for the Marshall Clinic, followed by the Lovelace Clinic for several years. His last employer prior to retiring was HEYCO Energy.

Herb is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary Taylor Avery, whom he married November 9, 1957. Herb passed away on their 50th anniversary. He is also survived by his sister, Lois E. Rodden, Idalou, TX. A nephew, Jack Rodden, of Roswell, two nieces, Nancy Rodden McKinney of Charlotte, NC, and Susan Rodden Moorman of Clovis. Also surviving him, his beloved stepchildren, Katherine Trina Holman Juestel of Carnarvon, Western Australia, and Edward Bryant Holman of Presidio, TX and their children.

Herb was chief usher at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for many years and had served on the vestry. He had hel a private pilot's license since 1955, and was a member of the Experimental Aircrafteres Assoc. He was a member of the Senior Circle of ENMMC, and an associate member of the Chaves Coujntry Republican Women.

Herb's character was summed up by his good friend, L. William Bell, MD now of Regina Sask., Canada, who said that Herb was the most decent and honorable man he had ever known.
