SIMONTON, H. V. BABE -- Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for H. V.. Babe Simonton, age 82, of Roswell, who passed away November 23, 2007 at a local nursing home. Rev. Dare Stevens of First United Methodist Church will conduct the service. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors at South Park Cemetery. All Honor Guard members please assemble at South Park at 2:30 PM.
H. V. was born July 9, 1925 in Keysport, Illinois, to William and Almedia Goodin Simonton. His parents preceded him in death, as well as a son, Wayne Simonton and a grandson, Wayne Simonton II. He had 2 brothers, Frank Simonton and Buck Simonton, and 7 sisters, Lois Ecker, Edith Childers, Farriel Cranford, Murl Harnetiaux, Lola Orbertino, Gloria Lee Fontana, and Dixie Miller, all from Illinois who precede him in death also.
He married Edie Halver on December 14, 1947, in Havre, Montana. Had he lived on December 14th, Edie and Babe would have celebrated 60 years of marriage. Edie survives him at the family home.
Other survivors include a daughter; Debbie Simonton Ellington of Roswell, 2 brothers, Don Simonton and Charlie Simonton, and a sister, Leetha Schone, Grandson Shane Gerstenbeger and Great Grandson Chase Gertsenbeger both of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Simontons came to Roswell in 1971, after living in Havre, Montana for 25 years, where Babe was a Deputy Sheriff. He was of the Methodist Faith, a member of the National Sheriffs Association, the Elks Lodge, the D.A.V., and V.F.W. He was a motel owner and operator for years.
