Ilima Freudenberger, 86, of Roswell, NM, died July 13th, 2009 in Chicago, IL. She had traveled there to visit with family and friends and had welcomed her first new great-grandson into the world.
Born May 30th, 1923 in Tulsa, OK, she was the daughter of Charles and Mabel Morgan MacKenzie. She was married on October 25th, 1944 to Arthur Freudenberger, whom she had met in Tulsa where he was training as a bombadier pilot with the United States Air Force. Both her beloved husband and sister, Adalee Goodpasture, preceded her in death.
An avid reader, excellent cook and bridge player, Ilima served as a docent at the Roswell Museum and Art Center and was a member of the Iris Club. Early on, she developed a keen interest in classical music, art and travel, and instilled an appreciation for all three in her sons.
She is survived by several beloved family members, including her three sons, Ronald Freudenberger, Palatine, IL; Gary Freudenberger, Louisville, KY; and James Freudenberger and his wife, Janet, Pagosa Springs, CO; five grandchildren, Jennifer Freudenberger, Portland, OR; Scott Freudenberger and his wife, Debbie, Arlington Heights, Il and Andrew Freudenberger, Chicago, IL, and their mother, Sharie Freudenberger of Rolling Meadows, IL; Kelly Freudenberger, Durango, CO, and Eric Freudenberger, Pagosa Springs, CO; a great-grandson, Connor Freudenberger, Arlington Heights, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
Ilima was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and great-grandmother. With style and grace, Ilima was a positive interesting influence on all people who had the good fortune to know and love her.
A memorial celebration of Ilimas life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at
St. Marks Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Rev. William Hartman will officiate. A luncheon for friends and family will follow at the church hall.
Memorial contributions in Ilimas honor may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Roswell Museum and Art Center.
