Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for Jackie S. Smith, age 84 who passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2013 after several lengthy illnesses. Retired General Jack Fox will conducted the services.
Jackie was born on May 11, 1928 in Rochester, Texas to John Leslie and Vera Shindler.
She is survived by two children, Lowell Smith, Jr and his wife Becky in Roswell, NM and Sherry Clarke in Albuquerque. Jackie has remaining twin brothers, Bryan Speck of Las Cruces, NM and Boyd Speck of Kennard, TX.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren, in Roswell, Albuquerque, Dallas metro and Minnesota, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Jackie was preceded in death by her twin sister, Juanita Hall, whom she dearly loved and missed so much these last few years of her life.
Many years ago Jackie received her nursing degree and worked as a nurse at St. Marys hospital in Roswell prior to moving to Dallas, Texas. She worked at Blue CrossBlue Shield there and later worked at the ArmyAir Force Exchange for several years before returning to Roswell.
Jackies hobbies and interests were quilting, embroidery, gardening, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She loved her frequent trips to Dallas for visits, quilt shows, sightseeing and occasional jaunts to Las Vegas, Laughlin and Albuquerque to the casinos. She also looked forward to and loved feeding and watching the hummingbirds at her kitchen window.
She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and was thrilled in November to get to see her newest greatgreat grandbaby.
Jackie left us all too soon with many warm and funny memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew her, including her family who loved her so very much and took care of her.
