James was born on November 7, 1941 in El Paso, Texas to Joseph Alexander and Margaret Elizabeth Harrison McDaniel. They have preceded him in death.p
pJames married his life long love and partner, Gwenda on September 22, 1962 in Roswell. She survives him at the family home. p
pHe is also survived by a son: Ron E. McDaniel and his wife Diane daughters: Shawna L. Hidalgo and her husband Michael, Marnie L. Gossett and her husband Brent: brother: Roy Edward McDaniel and his wife Gloria J. sister: Vera Emily Lavin and her husband Joe grandchildren: Andre Coca, Ara McDaniel, Ella Gossett, Isabella Hidalgo and Anya Hidalgo, and nieces, nephews and cousins.p
pJames was raised in Roswell. He graduated in 1961 from high school and then received his Bachelors in Range Management from New Mexico State University in 1966. He worked for the BLM from 1966 to 1968, and then moved to the ranch on May 1, 1968 which he ran until his death. p
pJames strong spirit and kind heart influenced many, and he was rewarded with the love from those whose lives he touched. His greatest, undying loves were for God and his family. A self made rancher, he built the ranch with vigor, honesty and the joy of knowing he had the best job in the world every single waking day. He served as member and President on the Capitan School Board as well as the Lincoln County Farm Bureau. James served many roles within the Baptist Church including member, Deacon and Elder.p
pPallbearers will be Scott Chapman, Floyd Hobbs, Adam McDaniel, Bill McKnight, Ryan McKnight, Caleb Saunders, Wayne Smith, and David Worrell. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Clark, Andre Coca, Jeff Conboy, Charlie Gatto, James Landfair, Dennis McDaniel, Howard McKinney, Terry Shellcroslee, Preston Stone, Arlin Talbot, Jeff Warnock, Tim Worrell and Lonnie Valencia.p
pThe family would like to thank Dr. Danny ElSayah and the staff at Kymera Cancer Center as well as MD Anderson.p

Heading East on 380 you will turn Left onto a gravel road Forest Service Rd. 56. If you are traveling West on Highway 380 from Lincoln turn Right. Drive 6 miles on the gravel road. You will pass on old homestead cabin on left 20 yards past cabin, turn Right. Follow this road for 38 of a mile to our entrance gate. Follow the Ranch road into camp. At T in road turn left and head down to the Lodge.p
