James E. Simpson was born on his father's ranch outside of Tatum in Lea County, NM, on March 29, 1919, to James Henry and Lula C. Odell Simpson. They preceded him in death as did his wife, Nora Belle, three brothers and seven sisters.
James passed away peacefully Friday July 21, at Mission Arch Care Center where he had resided the past two years. He is survived by one son, Jim Simpson and his wife, Pat, of Clinton, IL; two daughters, Linda Shalloup and her husband, Tony, of Springfield, MO, and Sarabeth Simpson of Fountain Hills, AZ; one brother, Buster Simpson of Redmond, OR; six grandchildren, Lisa Plank-Grant, Erica Plank, Tricia Simpson, Byron Simpson, Kerrie Simpson, and Cristi King, and ten great-grandchildren.
James was a rancher and cattleman in New Mexico and southwest Missouri until his retirement in 1987 when he and his wife moved to Roswell. He was a member of the Cattlemen's Association in both states. He was diligent, hard working and possessed a dry sense of humor. Our Cowboy is greatly loved and will be missed by his family and friends.
