VANDEWART, JAMES JIMMemorial services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel for James Jim Vandewart, age 79, of Roswell, who passed away July 12, 2006 at his home. Harold Hobson will officiate. Dress is casual. Interment has already taken place at South Park Cemetery.
Jim was born January 3, 1927 in Roswell to Ralph Vandewart. Sr. and Hallie. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
Jim and his childhood sweetheart, Bobby Lee Basham married October 9, 1949 in Roswell. He and his wife Bobby moved to their Eagle Aerie Ranch where they raised sheep, cattle and their two sons. His wife survives him at the family home.
He is also survived by Sons: Geoffrey Allen Vandewart and his wife Linda and their daughter Staci, of Yuma, AZ, and son Burr of Midland, TX. Michael Otis Vandewart and his wife Claudia of Pilot Point, TX and their son Aaron Kyle of Denver, CO; and a sister: Celia Vandewart of San Angelo, TX.
Jim attended grade school and high school in Roswell before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. After serving as a shipboard radio operator in WW2 he attended New Mexico A and M, then returned to Roswell. Jim served two terms as Chaves County Commissioner from Jan 1959 to Dec.1962. He belonged to the Eagles and was a life member of the Elks.
Arrangements are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
